How to support us

VOLUNTEER

If you are a California licensed attorney, or if you are fluent in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or another language, we need your help. California CLE trainings are offered for attorneys monthly. Trainees are expected to volunteer three times a year at our limited scope clinics, or take one pro bono case.

Training and mentorship are free. This is an excellent opportunity for newer attorneys looking to gain experience with the safety net of guidance from seasoned professionals, or retired attorneys keeping their skills and license up to date.

  • Trainings are held at 3:30 PM, remotely on the third Thursday of the month.

  • Our drop in clinic is in-person in Berkeley from 10-2 on the third Saturday.

  • Our hybrid remote/in-person clinic in Berkeley is from 1-3 on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the Month

DONATE

We do not accept funding that restricts our ability to provide free legal assistance to people, including those who are undocumented. Like most non-profits, we are a small group of dedicated but underpaid professionals who want to help people.

Still, we can’t pay the bills with principle. We rely on some government and foundation grants, and the generous donation of people like you. (Though, one of our most prized donations was in the amount of $10 from a thankful and low-income client.)

Please consider donating to our PayPal, or sharing our link with others. We are a non-profit, tax deductible organization. If you are a law firm, please consider us for your next cy pres award.

IMPORTANT: Please note “Consumer” or “CJC” in your gift.

COACHING to start your consumer practice

For other non-profits starting their own consumer program, we can train your staff, help you with infrastructure and provide templates to help you get started, including follow up check-ins and mentorship, for a $1,000 honorarium.

Note: this is not the same as us speaking to your community directly or on a panel. Those presentations are always free.
